Search Cass County Recent Arrests

Cass County recent arrests show up in several places. Each one answers a different question. A person picked up last night may not appear anywhere yet. A booking charge, once listed, still moves through the courts before anything is settled. Michigan runs custody data through a statewide system rather than a county page. So the smart move is matching the record to the stage. Same-day arrest signals, police reports, and jail status update on their own schedules. Booking photos and court files do too. Cass County keeps no live name-and-photo roster.

Finding Cass County Recent Arrests

The county itself posts no booking list. Its official Corrections page points an "Inmate Status" search toward Michigan VINELink. That is a statewide service. It handles custody lookups for participating jails. That makes VINELink the natural first stop when you have a name to check. It is not a mugshot feed, though. A brand-new arrest can lag before it reaches the database. For urgent questions, the Cass County Jail can tell you which office to call. Each source answers a different question about who was arrested. The 24 Hour Arrests page walks through same-day options when no official feed exists. The Arrest Log covers multi-day incident alerts and local police logs. It also notes where their archives run out. An arrest only opens a case. The court record tells you how the charge ended.

Arrested Last Night in Cass County

Cass County sets no fixed hour for overnight bookings. There is no promised refresh on weekends or holidays. The time a person enters the jail can differ from the time an alert goes out. The time a custody result appears can differ too. Begin with the Michigan VINELink person search. Enter a name, or use a booking number if you have one. A blank result does not mean no arrest happened; call the jail at 269-445-1209 instead. The Cass County Sheriff Nixle profile posts dated public-safety messages, some tied to arrests. It is not complete. There is no one-day boundary, no booking numbers, no release status, and no guaranteed photo. To track one person's transfer or release, use the VINELink Check instead. It is built for that, not for browsing incident news. The official-linked Nixle alert page displays how these incident notices are formatted.

The timestamps help place an event in time, but the cards add up to nothing like a full jail intake list.

Cass Arrest Booking and Bond Timing

The Inmate Services page describes how booking works at the jail. Many people arrive with a bond already set. Others stay for a weekday-afternoon arraignment before a judge. A $12 booking fee applies. Another $10 gets added when the arrest is on a warrant. Both must clear before anyone bonds out. Those are county-published charges, not fees for a mugshot or a records request. The page makes no promise about how fast a new booking reaches VINELink.

Cass County Release After Arrest

Bond can be paid through Express Account. Cash also works at the Sheriff's Department, per county instructions. A set bond can cut a custody stay short. Cases waiting on arraignment move much slower. Walking out of the jail also does not end the case itself. Court dates, bond conditions, and the final outcome can keep going. That can happen even after a name vanishes from a custody result.

Cass Arrest Volume and Agencies

A Sheriff's Office records-system RFP puts the jail at roughly 2,000 bookings per year. That is scale, not a current arrest total. It does not count unique people either. The same document lists several agencies sharing the system. They include the Sheriff, Dowagiac, Cassopolis, Ontwa/Edwardsburg, Pokagon Tribal Police, Michigan State Police, and the Prosecutor's Office. That mix is why the arresting agency and the jail holding the person can differ.

How Cass County Arrest Custody Works

The county website offers no roster table or searchable photo grid. Its Corrections page hands off to MI-VINE instead. That system takes a name or identifying number. It returns custody or case details for a participating record. Michigan's own materials make no promise that results include a booking photo. The county says nothing about timing. How fast a new arrest reaches VINE is unlisted. So is how long an entry stays searchable after release. The county's Corrections page places jail services alongside that Inmate Status route.

Because of this handoff, the public search is best described as a VINELink custody search. It is not a Cass County photo roster.

  1. Open the official county Corrections page and follow Inmate Status.
  2. Compare the full name and any available identifying detail. Do not rely on a photograph alone.
  3. If the result is missing or unclear, call the jail or submit a narrow sheriff records request.
  4. Register through MI-VINE if future custody notifications are needed.

Where Cass County Arrests Appear

No single public page gathers every Cass County arrest, custody update, mugshot, and court result. The county's sources split by purpose. Start with official government and court channels. News outlets and commercial indexes can offer leads, but they skip cases, keep stale claims, and may never note a dismissal.

RecentlyBooked, Busted Newspaper, Arrests.org, and Mugshots.zone list no Cass County, Michigan section. A historical Mugshots.com person page does exist. Its age alone proves nothing. It is not a current or complete feed. Never pay a removal vendor that claims control over an official record.

Cass Arrest Alerts Without an App

A dated third-party listing once promoted a Cass County Sheriff's Office app offering bulletins, tips, push alerts, and agency contact details. The county's own site links nothing like it. The listing also never promised an inmate search or a booking-photo roster. Nixle remains the office's working alert channel. So view that old listing as history, not as a reason to install software.

Recent Arrests by City

Local police write the incident report; the Cass County Jail keeps the custody record. That split matters. Each of the county's three largest incorporated cities has its own route for Cass County recent arrests:

A city report cannot always tell you whether the person stayed in custody. After finding an incident entry, check MI-VINE or the jail directly, then turn to the court docket for the outcome.

What Cass County Arrest Records Show

A booking record documents the jail intake itself. It stands apart from the police incident report and the later court file. Cass County's public pages publish no complete field schema, so name what you want. Name the person first. Give the date range too. Add the arresting agency and any known case or booking number. Narrow requests get answered faster.

FieldMeaning
Name and identifierThe identity recorded at intake and a booking or inmate number
Booking date and timeJail intake, which may differ from incident time
Arresting agencyThe office that delivered or arrested the person
Charges as bookedInitial charges, not findings of guilt
Bond and conditionsRelease terms recorded at that stage
Custody facilityWhere the person was held at the time
Booking photographAn intake image if created and releasable

Charges can be reduced or dropped later. The court docket shows the outcome.

Cass County Mugshots After Arrest

Cass County posts no public booking-photo gallery online. A mugshot can still sit inside the sheriff's booking file. Ask for that exact image through the Sheriff FOIA form. Describe the record precisely. Let the office apply Michigan FOIA exemptions. Release depends on the case. And a missing online photo does not mean no arrest happened or no photo exists.

Someone sentenced to state prison may appear with a different image. That photo shows up on the Michigan Department of Corrections OTIS search. OTIS covers people under MDOC jurisdiction only. Not every person arrested in Cass County shows up, and some profiles carry no photo. Match name, age, aliases, and MDOC number before trusting an image.

The official OTIS information page lays out the state system's scope.

Cass Arrest Photo Disclosure

The 1987 Michigan appeals decision in Free Press v. Oakland County Sheriff addressed booking-photo disclosure under Michigan FOIA. Cass County's website still makes no blanket promise that photos appear online or that every request gets filled. The practical move: ask the custodian for a named record and expect a case-by-case review. An arrest by itself never guarantees a public image.

Request a Cass County Arrest Record

The Sheriff's Office takes requests several ways. Use its online form or email foia@cassco.org. Mail and in-person requests work too, at 321 M-62, Cassopolis, MI 49031. Its published policy allows five business days for a response. A ten-business-day extension is possible. Replies can grant the request, deny it, grant it partly, or ask for clarification. Fees may cover labor and copying allowed by Michigan law. A deposit can be required in some cases.

  1. Identify the record, person, agency, and a narrow date range.
  2. Choose inspection, copies, or electronic delivery on the sheriff request form.
  3. Ask specifically for the booking sheet and booking photograph if both are needed.
  4. Review any fee estimate or exemption explanation before responding.
  5. Check the Cass County court file separately for the final disposition.

Is an official record wrong? Contact the office that created it. Dismissal, set-aside, sealing, and expungement are court processes, not website deletion buttons. The state MC 227 materials lay out the official route. So does Michigan's Cass County expungement page. Search engines do offer tools for outdated results once a source changes. Commercial sites may run free correction or opt-out channels. But their policies cannot alter the government record. Steer clear of paid services promising control over official files.

Cass Arrest Report Copy Fees

The county Sheriff FAQ lists $20 cash. That is the reference price for a police report copy. No flat booking-photo price appears anywhere. For a booking sheet and photo, request an itemized estimate under the FOIA policy instead. The routine report-copy figure does not control a different record request.

Cass Jail Record System Context

The 2020-era Sheriff RFP also flagged aging records-management systems. Jail-management systems needed replacement too. That context helps explain internal agency sharing and the rough annual booking scale. It does not make internal jail fields public. Nor does it create a current web feed. Public access still runs through VINELink, direct agency contact, and FOIA.

Arrest Records Under Michigan Law

Michigan FOIA opens with broad access to public records, then allows withholding under listed exemptions. MCL 15.243 sets out those exemptions and requires release of reasonably separable nonexempt material. Investigatory, privacy, security, juvenile, and medical protections can all touch a booking-record request. Michigan has no statute forcing pay-for-removal mugshot sites to erase images.

MCL 28.243 governs arrest records and biometric data in certain no-charge or dismissal situations. It is not a promise that every copy across courts, archives, news sites, and search engines disappears at once. Michigan retention schedules also hold different police and jail records for different spans. Older material may shift from the active agency to a records center or the Archives of Michigan.

The state records-management schedules show why an old arrest record can outlive a current custody search.

Retention rules bind government records; they never make an unofficial index accurate or current.

Cass County Arrest Warrants

If you suspect a Cass County warrant in your own name, talk with the court or an attorney and arrange a lawful resolution. Never try to detain a wanted person yourself. Nonurgent tips go through the official sheriff tip route on the Road Patrol page; call 911 for immediate danger. Also remember that a Nixle arrest alert does not prove anyone is still wanted.

After a Cass County Arrest

An arrest in Cass County leads down one of two paths. Some detainees post bond and go home. Others see a judge. At the arraignment, charges are read, rights are explained, and bond gets set or confirmed. Felonies open in District Court for probable-cause review. Some later move up to Circuit Court. Misdemeanors stay on the district track. The District Court criminal cases page lays out the ways a case can close, whether by dismissal, plea, trial, or another outcome. The Cass County Courts site also posts current searches and hearing dockets, though docket entries can shift without warning. For help locating a case, call the 43rd Circuit file room at 269-445-4416 or the 4th District file room at 269-445-4424. Staff there cannot give legal advice, though.

Match every Cass County arrest record against the court's final disposition. Details can change after booking.

Cass Arrests Beyond County Custody

State prison is a different system. Once a Cass County arrest leads to a state sentence, MDOC OTIS becomes the tool to use. It tracks prisoners, parolees, and probationers under MDOC control. County probation can slip past it. So can anyone no longer under supervision. In short, it is not a full arrest history. A state offender image, when one appears, also differs from the county booking photograph taken at the jail. Federal custody takes yet another route. The Bureau of Prisons locator lists federal inmates from 1982 onward, with identity, location, and release details, but it offers no public booking-photo gallery. The ICE detainee locator covers current immigration detention and certain recent releases, not county custody. A U.S. Marshals detainee may sit in a local contract jail first and only later appear in a federal system.

Booking
The jail intake process after an arrest.
Bond
Terms set for release while a case is pending.
Disposition
The recorded outcome of the court case.
Detainer
A request by another authority affecting release or transfer.
Expungement
A legal process that may set aside or restrict an eligible record.

Every one of these databases covers only its own slice of custody. A "released" result may just mean that one system let go, while other court or detention matters stay open.
